Hi, I’m Demi

An eating disorder and disordered eating therapist dedicated to help you achieve a balanced relationship with food and yourself.

I was born in Greece and I’ve lived there most of my life. Now I’m a traveler, living in different countries, experiencing different cultures, getting inspired from people around the world. I started my studies in Nutrition and Dietetics (Harokopio University), trying to understand the human body and its needs. I went on to get my master degree in Weight Management (Robert Gordon University). The more I studied, the more confused and discouraged I felt. All studies were pointing to the fact that the vast majority of the people that would go into a diet and lose the weight they wanted, they would regain it. In my need to understand more about how a person that has put so much effort into losing weight, would gain it again, I started studying psychology (American College of Greece). My goal was to create a more integrated and holistic approach around the problem. My degree in psychology helped me understand more about eating disorders and the relationship of food and psychology and of how food in many cases is used as a means of managing and controlling difficult emotions or situations.

Since 2017, I have been working with people with binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and with people struggling every day to find balance and peace with food. Even though, initially it was pure curiosity that led me down this path, the more I worked with people facing these problems the more I could see our similarities. I never had problems with food or body image, but I what I have discovered is that you and I might have many other things in common, such as black and white way of thinking, perfectionism (often manifested as procrastination), fear of failure, overthinking, judgmental way of thinking about ourselves, anxiety. Do these sound familiar? So many people with eating-related problems have these in common.

All these years, I have been working with hard-working, caring, passionate adults. People that on the outside and for all others seem so well put together and accomplished, but on the inside they feel lost, confused, unable to handle what for everyone else seems so simple, their food and body. They are the ones that are called in to manage a problem at work or a hard client, or the ones that provide all the emotional support and care for their families, but yet feel that there is something wrong in the way they manage their own feelings and the way they care for themselves. This strong contradiction is so often part of the problem.

Having been there and experienced so many of the things you are experiencing, I know how hard it is to live a full and satisfying life, when nothing you do ever seems to be enough. Through my personal journey and the journey that so many others have taken before you, I can tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. On the other side, you can find all ranges of emotions, without them overwhelming you. You can be present in the big and small moments of your life, without the constant interruption of thoughts about food or how you look. You can have meaningful moments with the people you love and achieve your professional goals, without the constant self-doubt. You can finally learn to love and accept yourself!
